Dr. Michael Star is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in the treatment of spinal disorders and joint replacement surgery. He attended Boston University's Six-Year medical Program in Boston, Massachusetts for his undergraduate and medical studies. He then performed his residency training at the State University of New York-Kings County Hospital Center, one of the largest and busiest medical centers in New York City. Dr. Star completed two additional years of fellowship training at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, CA, under the teaching of Dr's. Clifford W. Coldwell, Jr. and Roger P. Thorne.
Upon completion of his fellowship training, Dr. Star began practicing in Santa Rosa in 1991. In addition to his busy practice in Santa Rosa, he has an academic appointment at UCSF, and was the attending physician at the Complex Low Back Clinic between 1994 and 2001. He has authored many scientific papers, including publications in Spine, Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and Orthopaedics.
Dr. Star practices state of the art techniques in total joint arthroplasty, spinal disorders and general orthopaedics.
Dr. Star's interests include alpine and ice climbing and bicycling. He and his wife Debra live in San Rafael with their children.
