I have confidence in Dr. Bennett's abilities and appreciate that when I asked about surgical procedure he took the time to draw a picture. Post operatively I would have liked written instructions about care. Such as how long/often to elevate leg during the day and at night. Also about icing-One person said to ice and another said it wouldn't matter because of cast. Also with pain medication- getting stool softener or Benefiber to mitigate constipation. Following serial casting I was put in walking boot. Told that I was to progress to full weight bearing in subsequent weeks, prior to PT. I wasn't sure exactly how to do that other than just go by how body responded. I would have liked more info on how to do that. Along with how long should I keep the boot on during the day. The doctor said "only when walking" and Rosa said to me later when I wanted to verify, "that is not what he usually says". Swelling did continue and I would have liked to know that. I would have liked to know how much to move foot when out of the boot. I wiggled my toes when in office and Dr. Bennett said "keep doing that". Was there more that I could do? I went online for information, but there are different criteria depending on physician. So basically I would like more guidance with at home care. Know this is a busy office, but written guidelines would have been helpful for me.
