The Sports Medicine Center at Santa Rosa Orthopaedics work to restore active lifestyles for patients and sports enthusiasts of all ages. Dr. Michael McDermott, Dr. Gary SteinDr. Thomas Degenhardt make up the team of board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons working alongside physical therapists and support staff to care for recreational, high school, collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes. From injury prevention to diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, the SRO team specializes in the evaluation and management of injuries and illnesses that affect physically active people at all competitive levels.

SRO’s Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Hand Therapy professionals are an integral part of the Sports Medicine and rehabilitation Center, with is a state-of-the-art 10,000 sq. ft. facility equipped with specialized technology designed to enhance patient recovery and rehabilitation.

The SRO Sports Medicine team of physicians are well recognized as the foremost authorities in several subspecialties including: sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and surgery of the knee, shoulder, elbow, foot and ankle, hand and wrist, and spine.

In addition, SRO sports medicine physicians and therapists can provide advice on nutrition, supplements, exercise and on-going injury prevention. “We believe that a patient’s therapy experience is critical to recovery from injury or surgery,” says Dr. McDermott. “Our unique and integrative approach focuses on comprehensive care that creates a synergy between physician, therapists and support staff. With all of our personnel and equipment in a single location, we are able to confidently provide patients with ongoing, immediate and direct access to an orthopaedic specialist.”

SRO’s therapists have completed extensive post-graduate education in orthopaedics and sports rehabilitation and they stay current on the most effective approaches to injury prevention and rehabilitation. “Having this level of expertise to draw from, gives our patients a clear advantage and greater chance of achieving optimal recovery,” adds Dr. McDermott. With an onsite diagnostic imaging department, SRO’s physicians are able to quickly and accurately diagnosing an injury or condition. “And because radiologic exams are common during an orthopaedic visit, we have developed programs that are efficient, effective, and convenient.”

SRO’s Sports Medicine Center offers comprehensive diagnostic x-ray capabilities and has also incorporated a state-of-the-art open Magnetic Resonance Extremity (MRI) Scanner, helping to eliminate the claustrophobic feeling some patients experience with traditional MRI. Each of the SRO technologists is fully certified in his or her area of expertise and patients can rest assured that all of the MRI interpretations are performed by board certified radiologists specializing in musculoskeletal diagnoses.

Since it’s inception more than 60 years ago, SROs commitment to Sonoma County and the North Bay, Santa Rosa Orthopaedics has included actively supporting local athletic programs, sponsoring charitable events, and offering educational programs and workshops to the public.
