SRO’s Top Doctor Awards: Focus on Orthopaedic Trauma Care

Santa Rosa Orthopaedics was recently recognized under the category of Orthopaedic Surgery by Sonoma Magazine’s Top Doctors survey highlighting Dr. Frederick Bennett and Nathan Ehmer, D.O for their expertise. Today we would like to expand on the work these fine physicians do on the Orthopaedic Trauma Team.

Sonoma Magazine’s Top Doctor survey is distributed annually to local doctors who are asked which medical specialist they would most often recommend to someone they care about. More than 300 professionals emerged as top docs in 50 specialties of medicine.

About SRO’s Orthopaedic Trauma Team

Fellowship trained orthopaedic trauma specialists, Dr. Nathan R. Ehmer and Dr. Frederick S. Bennett, provide expert care for patients with severe musculoskeletal injuries and related complications, and in many cases serve as a regional resource for other physicians challenged by these complex orthopaedic cases.

Both acute and chronic conditions frequently managed by the trauma specialists at Santa Rosa Orthopaedics include severe fractures of the upper and lower extremities, including open and complex periarticular injuries, pelvic and acetabular fractures, complex femoral fractures, nonunions and malunions, infections and osteomyelitis.

The orthopaedic trauma team is quick to respond and restore conditions that include fractures and dislocations as well as severe soft tissue injuries caused by trauma events. Common orthopaedic traumatic injuries include femoral and tibial shaft fractures, acetabular and pelvic fractures, spine and spinal cord injuries, hand and upper extremity injuries, and foot and ankle injuries, among many others. Polytraumatized patients are those unique individuals with numerous skeletal and other primary organ system injuries, usually caused by high energy traumatic events. Orthopaedic traumatologists coordinate the orthopaedic portion of the patient’s care with other subspecialties in order to optimize the clinical outcome.

Dr. Bennett respects how potentially complex some orthopaedic conditions can be and often requests the help of other highly skilled orthopaedic sub specialist in the Bay Area, including other physicians of Santa Rosa Orthopaedics. He appreciates what a serious undertaking surgery is for patients, and will recommend surgery only when it is clearly the best option. The individual’s lifestyle, activity, goals, family, social and occupational commitments are always taken into consideration when making treatment recommendations.

Dr. Bennett is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the California Medical Association and the Sonoma County Medical Association.
